Boxing Day Ben

December 26th, 2005

Good weather forecast for the west, so out of bed at 6.30, breakfast, and then a ninety minute drive through a frosty countryside to Rowardennan for the climb up Ben Lomond. Student daughter wasn’t too impressed with the choice – she’s already bagged this Munro (but as she was four years old at the time it shouldn’t really count).

Loch Lomond from Ben LomondThe morning was beautiful, with a clear blue sky once the sun came up. The ground was frosty with ice where water had frozen on the path, but no snow as yet. Lovely atmospheric effects as we descended with the temperature dropping and the mist starting to roll in over Loch Lomond (see the photo). Back down over Ptarmigan and Tom Fithich to reach the car at 13.30 – good timings for this route.

Altogether a wonderful day, good to clear away the cobwebs of the day job and the machinations of open-source communities for this day at least. And as a bonus a new image to head up this blog!
