Home again

March 16th, 2006

Phone call from home at 2.30 am (!) in the hotel then up at 4.30am to have breakfast and set off on the long flight back home. Even at this early hour, the front of Dhaka airport was a complete chaos of people, traffic, shouting, horns blaring – a final reminder of what we were leaving behind. In comparison, the BA 777 was a sea of tranquillity.

Just as we were about to take off a sick baby had to be removed from the plane, so that was the best part of two hours spent while the baby, parents, and their baggage were removed. Connection at Heathrow missed – literal sprint from Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 to catch the next flight to Edinburgh which had just started boarding. This meant our baggage missed the flight so I had to wait up until after 10pm waiting for it to be delivered.

Well over 24 hours on the go without any sleep. Time for bed.
