Hope at last?
November 20th, 2006I’ve blogged before about the appalling humanitarian disaster creeping up on the people of Bangladesh due to arsenic contamination of the drinking water. Two recent news articles suddenly suggest a breakthrough may be possible:
- a simple test for arsenic contamination
- a simple method for removing arsenic from drinking water
Is it too much to hope that together these may provide a possible solution to providing pure drinking water? and could something similar be done for rice grown in contaminated water?

yes, we can hope.
IMO, 40 to 50 million people are affected from arsenic in my country (Bangladesh) out of the total 100 million arsenic affected people in the world. But, there wasn’t enough effort (research and development) to fight the problem locally; it’s good to hear somewhere few people are working continously and came up with these “i) simple test ii)simple method for removing arsenic” ray of light.
let’s hope….. we can get the solutions within least time and money.
