Beware of bunnies
June 16th, 2007There’s nothing quite catches the imagination of the media like security threats, real or imaginary. I thought we’d heard the last of the so-called “BadBunny“, but we’re still seeing the story rehashed in the media. I’ve just had an email from a concerned user, so I thought I’d share the question and my reply:

unless you are sure who it came from and you trust the sender. If you do
that, you are perfectly safe from “BadBunny” and similar so-called
“macro viruses”.If you are in the habit of opening attachments or downloading files from
people you have never heard of, then there’s nothing OpenOffice.org or
Microsoft or any anti-virus company can do can protect you. It’s like car manufacturers – they can fit the best brakes in the world,
but if you throw yourself in front of a car driving at sixty miles an
hour then you’re probably dead.OpenOffice.org announcement on the Bad Bunny
