Who are OpenOffice.org?

August 31st, 2007

In an interview with a journalist last night, I was asked how OpenOffice.org is organised. I explained: “Our activity is organized within projects, which cover all aspects of the development lifecycle, as well as general ‘management’ tasks like marketing. Projects are largely self-managing, with two umbrella committees – an Engineering Steering Committee, and an overall Community Council.”

OpenOffice.org ProjectsOne of my colleagues, Matthias Mueller-Prove, has put together a interactive graphic illustration of all these projects on IBM’s Alphaworks site (Java plug-in required to view).

I wonder how many commercial software companies can boast that their Quality Assurance team is 2.6 times the size of their Marketing team? Even though I lead the OpenOffice.org Marketing Project, I think that’s brilliant news for our users :-)
