Otto flies again
November 13th, 2007
Many open-source projects have mascots, with Tux the Linux penguin probably the best known. OpenOffice.org’s best known symbol is the seagull in its logo, and I have blogged before about a number of attempts to turn this into a full-blown mascot called “Otto” (aka La Mouette). Here are Tux and Otto hand in hand… La Mouette is a far more sinister looking bird.
Well, Otto is about to make another appearance, with a bunch of OpenOffice.org social networking enthusiasts determined to give Otto a “second life” on Web 2.0. To quote from their manifesto: This is sort of an adventure, the main people that we are targeting are social techie people but not really geeky. We want to present a face to interact and also to push a wider brand awareness.
So, if you come across Otto on your preferred site, please add him (her?) to your list of friends…
