Buses

February 16th, 2008

Last year Lothian buses introduced real-time tracking of buses on a number of routes in Edinburgh. Displays at the main city centre bus stops show the predicted arrival times of the next two buses for each tracked service. This has been handy for me coming home from work in the city centre, but has been of little use at home, where there are no displays at the bus stops.

This has now changed, with the availability of this information for every bus stop via the internet. For example, this display shows the status at the bus stop across the road going into town (you’ll need to allow pop-ups in Firefox to see the display). How cool is that?

Now, all we need is a text message service for those rare times when access to the net isn’t available - although these are increasingly rare, thanks to my lovely Eee PC :-)
