Dundalk, Ireland
February 23rd, 2008This is one of a series of reviews of the rival bids to host the OpenOffice.org Annual Conference 2008 (OOoCon).
Proposal
The Irish team use less than half their word limit to answer the Key Question. The Mandatory section is complete, and the team has a wide variety of members including some well-known Community activists. The Optional Information covers the essentials, and the Supplementary Information covers Government sponsorship and social activities. Score: 2/5
Why Dundalk?
The proposal has strong government backing which the team hopes will strengthen open source in Ireland, which they state is the second largest exporter of software in the world. The team members represent a broad range of interests. The proposal is keen to emphasise this is an all-Ireland bid - however, OOo has always been keen to steer clear of “political” considerations in awarding OOoCons. Score: 2/5
Koper Factor
The second sentence of the proposal talks about hospitality, and there is a whole section of Supplementary Information devoted to the social side of the proposal. These cover both cafe culture, set piece events, and tourism. Score: 3/5
