A Double Celebration

March 27th, 2008

The news birdTwo long awaited OpenOffice.org developments today

  1. We’ve formally announced the release of version 2.4 (you can find the link to the Press Release on our Press Releases page). With no less than 6 release candidates required to weed out all the ‘show stopper’ bugs, this has been a particularly prolonged labour. Again, thanks to the developers, and particularly the QA team, for persisting to make sure the release meets the high quality standards our users have come to take for granted. Note: the QA team are always looking for additional helpers. This is one area where you don’t need specialised technical skills to make a great contribution to the Community.
  2. At the same time, the website has been given a makeover by our web team – Maarten, Ivan, Graham, Christian, Alexandro, André, Kay … and no doubt others who I have forgotten. In a community as large (and opinionated :-) ) as OpenOffice.org, it’s not enough to be creative web designers – you also need endless patience, diplomacy, and sheer determination to get things done. So congratulations to the team – if you haven’t seen the site, have a look now!

Finally, thanks to the many bloggers who have been desperate to announce the new release, but who have complied with our request not to leak the news prematurely for the greater good of the community.
