Changing the World

June 6th, 2008

SourceForge - home to zillions of open source projects - is running one of those ‘nominate your favourite open-source project’ contests. They’ve tried to make it a bit more interesting by adding some tongue-in-cheek categories, such as Most Likely to Get Users Sued and Most Likely to Be Ambiguously Accused of Patent Violation. The one that caught my eye though was Most Likely to Change the World.

Yes, you’ve guessed it, this is a shameless plug to request your votes for OpenOffice.org in this category. To make it easy, you can just click on the Nominate this Project button I have thoughfully provided for you :) (note: you can add one of these buttons to your own blog or web page - there’s a selection of styles and instructions here).

Why the Most Likely to Change the World category? If you want to make your voice heard in today’s world, you need office software to help you put your message across. OpenOffice.org offers citizens of the world the potential to use office software of the highest quality without financial or language barriers. By using OpenDocument Format (ODF), it guarantees that their documents remain their property. In a digital age, that’s software which can change the world - for the better.
