Open or commercial – you decide
December 13th, 2008Let’s face it, you’d think it would be hard for a volunteer open-source project to compete with one of the world’s most affluent technology companies.
No, for once, I’m not talking about OpenOffice.org and a rival product from a monopoly commercial software house.
I’m talking about OpenStreetMap and Google Maps. I was looking at a property search engine this evening and I spotted that as well as their regular Google-based maps, they also have an experimental OpenStreetMap based version. So which is better? You choose:

I have contribute to OSM for my town quite a bit, but I most say that Google Maps is more complete at least here in Mexico. OSM still got some way to go.
