Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible
February 13th, 2009People have been asking me what’s happened to the OpenOffice.org download counter on the Marketing Planet. The answer is that there were some very unlikely figures appearing in the daily statistics. The simplest explanation is that person or persons unknown have been trying to “improve” the figures – or possibly (but less likely) that the Bouncer has been malfunctioning.
We know that the Bouncer figures are only a rough guide to the success of OpenOffice.org. For example, Linux users will tend to download their OpenOffice.org from their distribution’s repositories – which aren’t included in the Bouncer figures. However, they are a useful thermometer of how things are going.
We’re doing our best to clean up the data and get the counter back in business. But in the meantime, we’d rather report nothing, than report figures which may have been manipulated.
