Happy Easter?

March 15th, 2009

I’ve been working on the List of new Features for OpenOffice.org 3.1.

I’ve been doing all my everyday work using the various developers’ snaphots of 3.1 for some time now (yes, I know you shouldn’t, but I do back up my PC weekly…). There are some significant and much-requested new features this time – e.g. persistent lobbying from the French educational team has finally been rewarded with Chart enhancements.

However, I’ve also been impressed with the number of subtle “I’m sure it didn’t used to do that” changes in everyday work. For example: the changes to the display of selected text; the addition of syntax help in Calc formulae; the way images appear when they are being dragged…

And of course, the improvement in the way graphics are drawn on screen with anti-aliasing is just amazing.

So, I think we’ll have a lot of happy users when the final release comes out around Easter time!
