HOW-TO: Produce Calc Reports in Writer
May 30th, 2007In 2007 one of my colleagues in OpenOffice.org had kindly set up a website to allow people to register their interest in presenting a paper at the OpenOffice.org Annual Conference. This phpESP system stored all the proposals in a database. At the end of the registration period, phpESP then gave me a file of all the proposals in .csv format.
So far so good. Calc can quite happily open a .csv file and display it as a regular spreadsheet. By saving the file in OpenOffice.org’s .ods format I could then remove duplicates and rubbish and generally tidy it up. However, what I could not do was produce all the proposals in a nice booklet form for my colleagues. For that I needed to use Writer.or ODF (680k) for use in Writer or other ODF capable software
The problem was, how to get that nice Calc file into Writer?
This HOW-TO shows how I did it. It’s not very difficult, but the one critical step (while using the Mail Merge Wizard) is not obvious.
The HOW-TO is 10 pages of A4. You can download it here pdf (860k).
